UPDATE 1:00 p.m.: A source close to the band reports that "nothing has changed regarding hiatus plans for the group, and all will be revealed in due time from the band members' own mouths," according to Billboard. It looks like news of the breakup was just a false alarm. No member of the band has made a personal comment on the situation.

Reports have been flooding the internet this morning that One Direction's hiatus is reportedly turning into a permanent breakup, according to Us Weekly. A source explains that the foursome decided “not to renew their recording contract” after finishing their Made in the A.M. tour in 2015. “The 1D thing just ran its course. They’ll remain friends, but they are exhausted and want solo careers,” says the magazine's source. The word of breakup is surprising considering the lengths the band went to adamantly state that their hiatus is not a breakup on Twitter, on the Late Late Show, and in interviews. The report is now even murkier as a rep for the band alleges that the report is "not true."

Individually, members Harry Styles and Liam Payne are gearing up for solo careers. Harry has registered four new songs with ASCAP while Liam has been in the studio collaborating with Juicy J
