David Bowie's Blackstar album has skyrocketed to the No. 1 spot on iTunes following news of his passing. The project dropped last Friday on the late singer's 69th birthday. "He made Blackstar for us, his parting gift," wrote his longtime friend and producer Tony Visconti on Facebook. Best of Bowie is currently the No. 2 album while his other classic releases, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and Hunky Dory, are currently in the iTunes top 10. Bowie's albums are currently in the top two spots on Amazon Music's charts as well.

Interestingly enough, Bowie predicted the formation and success of music streaming services back in a 2002 interview with the New York Times. "Music itself is going to become like running water or electricity,” he explained. ''You'd better be prepared for doing a lot of touring because that's really the only unique situation that's going to be left. It's terribly exciting. But on the other hand it doesn't matter if you think it's exciting or not; it's what's going to happen.'' If you want to buy any of the late singer's music, head over to Rough Trade where all of the profits from his albums during the month of January will be donated to cancer research.
