Having been mainly known for their grime and grime-related club releases, DJ Cable's Triangulum Recordings are making a bold move with their latest release, Mattwizard's The Look EP (out now). There's an echo of grime in the awkward stop-start cadence, for example, but much of the influence comes from p-funk, classic electro and jazz. Think of Herbie Hancock jamming with Afrika Bambaataa and Captain Beefheart. Don't think it's unfocused though, these are still taut club tracks at work with glossy synths and punchy drums; you could easily see this soundtracking a slick UK version of Drive. Check it out in full below.
