The Chicago hip-hop scene lost DJ Timbuck2 earlier this month when he passed away from cancer. Timothy Jones was an integral figure in Chicago as a WGCI on-air personality who gave new artists a chance by offering them their first live interviews. His closest admirers (Kanye West, Vic Mensa, and many more) mourned his loss on Twitter, but his life will never be forgotten. The 34-year-old’s contributions to the culture were remembered in a tribute show held at the Metro last night in Chicago.
Fake Shore Drive was in the building to capture moments from the #Timbuck2Forever concert. The likes of Just Blaze, De La Soul, Vic Mensa, Twista, GLC and more joined DJs from all over the city to show support for Timbuck2. While it sounded like a jam-packed event, FSDreported some great news happened. The City of Chicago has deemed Dec. 30 as DJ Timbuck2 Day in Chicago.
Timbuck2’s brother was there to accept the certified document signed by Mayor Rahm Emanuel. For everyone who wants to continue paying their respects to Timbuck2, Dec. 30 is officially known as DJ Timbuck2 Day forever.
