Justin Bieber's "What Do You Mean" is officially a smash hit, as the song debuted in the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week. This is the first No. 1 hit of Bieber's career, with his previous high coming in 2012 when "Boyfriend" reached No. 2 on the charts. Bieber's massive first week debut knocked The Weeknd's "Can't Feel My Face" out of the top spot, and became just the 23rd song in the history of chart to debut at No. 1, and the first song to do so since Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" last year. Bieber bet on himself and his fans in a big way with this single, and rolled it out with massive promotion that included day-to-day social media coverage and performances at the MTV VMAs and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

Bieber's big entry onto the chart also continues the trend of at least one song a year since 2009 debuting at No. 1. The records didn't stop there though, as Bieber also became the youngest male artist ever debut at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. "What Do You Mean" is the lead single from Bieber's upcoming album, which he's planning to release on November 13. "I am thrilled for Justin, who put so much heart, soul and hard work into creating and launching this song," said Steve Bartels, Def Jam CEO. Along with the chart success of "What Do You Mean," Bieber also already broke a Spotify record with the most streams of a song in a five-day period.
