Back in July, we met up with Halsey in Brooklyn to discuss her then-unreleased debut album BADLANDS. "The idea of Badlands was creating a space with sound, which is a really difficult thing to do," she told us. While early tracks hinted at the promising album to come, nothing could have prepared the singer for the whirlwind of success since the album's release. One reason behind the 20-year-old's success is undoubtedly her generational battle-cry anthem "New Americana" that first premiered on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 show.

Today, the song is finally getting its visual treatment in a dystopian post-apocalyptic world worthy of Katniss Everdeen and Tris Prior. Like Katniss and Tris before her, Halsey takes on President SnowJeanine the government with a vengeance and an incessant need to lead. It's a cinematic debut of grandeur that equally matches the sweeping landscape of the blood-pumping single. It also makes for a welcomed first glance into the turbulent terrain of BADLANDS as her first official video for the album. Watch the video above. BADLANDS is out now.
