This week, the Black Eyed Peas announced their official comeback to music on Apple Music’s Beats 1 with Zane Lowe. During his show, special guest will.i.am premiered his new song “Yesterday” with the accompanied video on Apple Connect. In the clip, Black Eyed Peas pay homage to hip-hop classics by taking the original samples and revamping them with new lyrics, while shining a light on the culture of crate digging.

Erykah Badu has done something very similar in her video for “Honey” that was released six years ago. She went on Facebook to question the group, saying she wrote and directed her version that allowed her to win Best Director at the 2008 VMAs. She didn’t sound too serious about it, but does make a pretty compelling case. Do you think they are similar? Compare them above and below.
