You might recognize the face and voice of Jackson Phillips as one half of the very popular indie duo Carousel. While Carousel found a stream of success touring around the country with their songs in permanent rotation for TV show soundtracks on MTV and ABC Family, this week marks a new beginning for the singer. Taking the name of Day Wave, Jackson arrives with a fresh, glimmering pep in his synth-electro step with his triumphant debut EP Headcase.

Releasing songs steadily since last November, Headcase arrives bursting at the seams with lush instrumentation and pop promise for all those still trying to figure it all out. Day Wave melds 80’s vices with top-down synths, sweetly driving us through a blurring haze of nostalgia where the teen angst John Hughes meets the quiet hypnotic allure of Beach House, unleashing feverish anthems for the lonely and reminding us the criminal can get the girl. From the airy anthem of 20-something ambivalence in "Nothing At All" to the mood-soaked back to the future ride and Mark Hoppus-approved "Drag," Headcase is an acid-washed headrush fated to get stuck in your head. Even Zane Lowe couldn't resist playing "We Try But We Don't Fit In" on the first day of Beats 1.

Listen to Headcase below and look for the EP to be released this Friday 7/17 (pre-order here). And don't miss Day Wave on tour this summer along the West Coast with Blonde Redhead and his debut NYC performance this August (dates here).
