It's hard to believe, but D'Angelo's first ever headlining gig at New York City's legendary Apollo Theater is happening next month on February 7. In the press release detailing the show, the Apollo mentions that in 1991 D'Angelo performed at the venue's "Amateur Night at the Apollo" weekly competition series, and went on to win three nights in a row and a cash prize.

This show will also mark D'Angelo's first since releasing his surprise album, Black Messiah, back in December. D'Angelo will be backed by his band, the Vanguard, for the performance, which tickets will go on sale for on January 20, with Apollo A-List members getting an early pre-sale deal for the show starting on January 19. Following the concert, D'Angelo will head to Europe for his "Second Coming" tour, which officially kicks off in Switzerland on February 11. Black Messiah is currently available for purchase on iTunes.
