We're all still reeling from the release of D'Angelo's long-awaited album, Black Messiah. He dropped it late last night, so it's almost hard to believe that it wasn't just a dream—and rightfully so when you consider how long it took for this project to come to fruition. There have been tons of setbacks—including D'Angelo's rough battle with substance abuse— and even more rumors including potential collaborators.

But that's over now. Over 14 years later, Black Messiah is finally here! Like you guys, we're already deep into our feelings, soaking up the soul and deciphering the powerful songs. We took a moment to look at what's gone down since we first heard about a new album from the soulful singer back in 2005, and some of the reactions now that we've finally got our hands on what was once considered a myth.
