2015's producer-to-watch Nick Hook has dropped the second single from his Serato-sponsored collaboration project Collage v.1. "Jaco" partners Hook with New Jersey-bred house legend Todd Edwards and Brooklyn-based vocalist Kilo Kish for a bizarre and stuttering techno meets trap track that just ends up sounding like the most futuristic bossa nova that you've ever heard. On a project that already has featured a breakdance-friendly west-coast style Kraftwerk-funk production with Egyptian Lover, one can only imagine what other tracks—including pairings with DJ Sliink, Nadus, DJ Paypal and yes, Parliament-Funkadelic's Bernie Worrell—will sound like. This is unquestionably the most progressive sounding release of 2014, and likely representative of the most progressive sound for 2015, too. Marching to the beat of his own drum (sample), Hook is distancing himself from even the top-tier of producers on the cusp of being up next. Collage v.1 is available for pre-order now, with a December 16 date set for the full release.
