Lifetime aired its Aaliyah biopic, Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B Saturday night and it was everything an unsanctioned Aaliyah biopic would look like.
Back in June, the Haughton family publicly vowed to stop production of the film (as well as Timbaland who hoped fans were NOT watching the film to begin with), but it seemed that the two-hour movie event—based on the bestseller, Aaliyah: More Than a Woman, would cause for a stellar Saturday night on Twitter. And sure enough, it did.
One of the biggest problems of the flick was easily the casting. Disney actress Zendaya—who was originally casted to play baby girl—dropped out of the film and was later replaced with 23-year-old actress Alexandra Shipp. The bigger issue, though, was the variant Drake who played Aaliyah's brother, a malnourished Missy and Timbaland, and a fake Shemar Moore playing Dame Dash.
Lifetime did also manage to plug in sneak peeks of their upcoming biopics for Whitney Houston and En Vogue. While we can already imagine how bad the casting will also be for those titles, Twitter went ahead and gave the television network a hand on casting ideas for even more biopics they'll likely be ruining in the coming years.
