Singer/producer Grimes released a critically-acclaimed record in last year's Visions; in fact, we named it the eleventh-best LP of 2012. As her profile is skyrocketed, she's had a love-hate relationship with the attention.

At one point earlier this year, after posting a list of her favorite music from last year that included Beyonce, TaylorSwift, Lana Del Rey, and PSY, she received so much negative attention that she ended up deleting—at least, temporarily—her Tumblr account.

Well, last night, Grimes returned to Tumblr, and seems much more at peace with her ability to use her noteriety as a megaphone. After having concluded her world tour and the album cycle for Visions, she made a statement about her experiences and objectification titled, "I don't want to have to compromise my morals in order to make a living."

The piece focused on some of the negative experiences she's had to deal with in being a rising artist, including descriptions of her body image, the threatening behavior of strangers, and her growing distrust of people she cares about. Yes, those do sound like the themes of many a rap song.

Among her concerns:

i dont want to be molested at shows or on the street by people who perceive me as an object that exists for their personal satisfaction

As she says at the top, "i don't want my words to be taken out of context," so make sure to read the piece in its entirety here.
