WHY IT'S WORTH THE DL:Freddie Gibbs has no qualms about giving away free music. He once dropped an 81-track mixtape extravaganza, The Labels Tryin' To Kill Me. That, along with other critically acclaimed mixtapes like The Miseducation of Freddie Gibbs and midwestgangstaboxframecadillacmuzik, earned the Gary, Indiana rapper a coveted spot on XXL's most recent "Freshman" cover. So, to whet fans' appetite for his first retail release, Str8 Killa (click here for our track-by-track preview), Gangsta Gibbs has dropped an accompanying mixtape, which includes six of the songs from the EP as well as a bunch of songs that might have been a pain to clear—most notably, "Slangin' Rocks," a hilarious, gangstafied reworking of the Whispers' "Rock Steady." With features from Bun B, Jay Rock, and Pill, and production by Statik Selektah, Develop, and Block Bettaz, Str8 Killa No Filla goes hard in the motherfuckin' paint.
