Donald Trump took to Twitter, his favorite social media platform, on Thursday morning to attack Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, the hosts of MSNBC’s show Morning Joe, despite claiming he doesn’t even watch their show anymore.

In a series of scathing tweets, Trump referred to Scarborough as "Psycho Joe" and said Brzezinski has a "low I.Q." and was "bleeding badly from a face-lift" when he saw the hosts, who are engaged to be married, at his Mar-a-Lago club last New Year’s Eve.

It's not clear what exactly set the President off, but according to Politico, Brzezinski spoke about Trump on her show on Thursday morning, calling him a liar and accusing him of "destroying the country."

For her part, Brzezinski quickly clapped back at Trump by tweeting a picture of a box of Cheerios, which is "made for little hands." It's a low-key and simple tweet that cuts to the heart of Trump's insecurities about his hand size.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders spoke to Fox News soon after the President tweeted his insults and explained that Trump has never been "someone who gets attacked and doesn't push back." She added that "this is a president who fights fire with fire and certainly will not be allowed to be bullied by liberal media or liberal elites in Hollywood or anywhere else."

This latest attack on Brzezinski resembles many of Trump’s crude insults against women, but particularly when he said Megyn Kelly had "blood coming out of her wherever" after she moderated a Republican presidential debate in August 2016.

According to The Hill, Scarborough claims that he and Brzezinski did in fact go to Mar-a-Lago in late 2016, but he said they did it while attempting to set up an interview with the then-President-elect. "Nothing that Mika and I did in setting up this meeting was any different than what all good reporters and news hosts try to do daily," Scarborough said.

Thursday's scathing tweet storm was not the first time Trump felt the need to personally attack the hosts of Morning Joe. Back in August 2016, he took to Twitter to call the show "low-rated" and referred to Brzezinski as "off the wall," "neurotic," "not very bright," and "insecure."

Republican Senators Lindsey Graham and Ben Sasse each took to Twitter on Thursday to speak out against Trump’s comments:
