The mercury is dropping, the leaves are falling, and your local has almost definitely seen a dramatic spike in ‘soup of the day’ orders. And while that's all pretty standard as winter creeps up on us, one young Melbourne woman found herself on the receiving end of a very much unwanted hot cuppa yesterday afternoon.

Meg Rayner (whose commute was made even more miserable due to nursing a broken leg in a cast) got into an altercation with a couple of passengers who were smoking at the back of the tram. She tweeted” “Hey @yarratrams there’s people smoking on tram 237. Get them off”. Amazingly, within one stop, the tram driver “came down and asked who was smoking”.

That’s when things became heated. When Miss Rayner pointed out the offenders, they allegedly hurled insults, calling her a “dog” and a “mongrel”. The man agreed to get off the train, but not before the woman threatened to throw her hot soup “at this bitch, I don’t care if she’s on crutches”. True to her word, the woman scalded Miss Rayner with her soup upon disembarking.

Hilariously, as if to cool things down, the pair then threw a frozen coke through the window at other passengers. The incident raises so many questions, but there's definitely at least one that's key – who throws a soup? Honestly.
