Red Kangaroo Goes Viral After Being Caught Hopping Down The Streets Of Detroit

A Twitter video has shown an Australian native animal found a long way from home in Detroit, Michigan.

A quick look at the Michigan Department of Natural Resources website shows that animals likely to be found in the state include wolves, elks and cougars. However, a recent Snapchat video of a man running down the street with a Kangaroo on a leash that went viral on Twitter says otherwise. Yes, a Kangaroo in Detroit, Michigan.

In the video posted by Twitter user @BrionnaLondon filmed from a car, Stacks is seen carrying the Kangaroo before letting him hop off and running behind it on a leash, crossing a road as stunned observers took shots of the foreign animal. According to his handler, Javon Stacks, the Kangaroo is a 2-year-old red kangaroo who goes by the name Darwin.

Speaking to Candice Williams of The Detroit News, Stacks said he was in the neighborhood for a party when kids at the party requested to see the Kangaroo hop around. The Red Kangaroo is a part of Stacks’ Exotic Zoo which includes exotic animals, reptiles and mammals. While the spokesman for Detroit Animal Control, Kelly McLaughlin, says it is illegal to own an exotic animal in the city of Detroit, Stacks says that his zoo is licensed.
