Former Attorney General Eric Holder has some encouraging words for those waiting on Barack Obama's return to politics. Holder told reporters on Tuesday that he's been discussing ways the former POTUS can help with the new National Democratic Redistricting Committee, Politicoreported.
"It's coming," Holder, who chairs the NDRC, said. "He's coming. And he's ready to roll."
The NDRC's work in 2017, Holder said, amounts to a battle for democracy. "The notion that people are denied their ability to cast a meaningful vote...is inconsistent with who we say we are, inconsistent with what we say our democracy is about," Holder said. Though the addition of Jeff "Make America Alabama Again" Sessions in Trump's administration has increased the difficulty of the NDRC's court work, Holder believes their argument can still be made and "made well."
Obama is next set to receive the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award on May 7 at the Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston. According to the Hill, Obama will deliver an acceptance speech. The award will be presented by Caroline Kennedy and her son, Jack Schlossberg.
"President Obama has embodied the definition of courage that my grandfather cites in the opening lines of 'Profiles in Courage': grace under pressure," Schlossberg said in a statement to the Hill. "Throughout his two terms in office, he represented all Americans with decency, integrity, and an unshakeable commitment to the greater good." The event will mark the 100th anniversary of JFK’s birth.
