Watch This 14-Year-Old Gold Medalist Shred Her Way to Indoor Skydiving Glory

Indoor skydiving champ Kyra Poh says her path to victory was inspired by her grandpa, who's currently battling cancer.

Hanging out here on the ground is pretty boring, isn't it? But hanging out in the air while zipping and flipping your way through some amazing indoor skydiving moves? Not boring at all. As Mashablereported Sunday, the floating acrobatics of 14-year-old Kyra Poh were dazzling enough to bag two gold medals at the 2017 Wind Games in Spain.

"My routine style is kind of feminine, so I do lots of flips and spins, but I also like to mix it together with a long of strong and technical moves," Kyra toldMashable. "For freestyle it's all about how you look and how graceful you are." The Singaporean champ bested 10 other indoor skydivers in the solo freestyle competition and was also awarded the "World's Fastest Flyer" distinction.

Kyra, who earned SGD $2,300 (USD $1,632.83) for each medal, said her grandfather was her inspiration. "I thought about him before I went into the tunnel," she told the Straits Times Monday. "He's also fighting (against cancer), which is such a tough thing to do, and he doesn't even think there's anything wrong with him." Her grandfather, Sunny Teo, was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic and liver cancer.

Kyra previously bagged gold at the indoor skydiving World Cup event last October and clinched the title at the Australian Championship Freestyle Open. Awards, however, are not the motivator for Kyra and the fam. "For us, it's not so much about whether she is a brilliant flier or not, but that she's a nice girl and when people look at her, they are inspired," her mother, Carolyn, told the Straits Times.
