Sharks terrify a lot of people, fooling us into believing they are masters of the sea, but no: apparently killer whales will chomp up a shark for breakfast, but not before dragging it around for a while first. This scenario is exactly what a drone photographer in Monterey Bay captured earlier this week while passengers on a whale watching cruise looked on.

According to Monterey County Weekly, Slater Moore, a drone photographer and videographer, was on the cruise and captured the shark getting dragged around among a pod of offshore killer whales who seemed to want to thoroughly play with their food before eating it. Two baby orca calves can be seen in the video as well.

Katlyn Taylor, a naturalist who works for Monterey Bay Whale Watch told Monterey County Weekly that because of the vantage point, it's rare to get a good look at what whales are feeding on from a boat, so the aerial view is a rare look at what the orcas were feeding on and how.

"A lot of times when we see offshore killer whales it's hard to tell what they are eating. We hardly ever get footage to see what it actually is," Taylor told Monterey County Weekly. Taylor added that it's not at all rare to get a glimpse of orcas in groups of up to 25, but getting a good look of their feedings certainly is. "They specialize in sharks, and probably some types of offshore fish. It's pretty lucky to see them," she said.
