Carl Paladino, Trump NY State Co-Chair, Told to Resign From School Board Over Racist Comments About Obamas

Paladino was given 24 hours to resign from the Buffalo school board, or else the Department of Education would make a final decision.

The saga of Carl Paladino's racist comments continues. Just before Christmas, Donald Trump's New York state campaign co-chair Carl Paladino unleashed a torrent of racist invective at the Obamas in response to a survey sent to him by the Buffalo ArtVoice. Paladino wished death on POTUS, and compared the First Lady to a gorilla.

Several days later, predictably, came the very half-hearted apology, an epic, rambling statement that continued to take shots at the president while insisting the whole thing was a "mistake" and that he was "not a racist."

Well, it seems that members of the Buffalo school board, where Paladino serves, are not buying it. On Thursday, the board voted 6-2 (Paladino was not present—also, who were the two?!) to give Paladino 24 hours to resign his seat on the board. If he didn't, the decision on whether he would stay or go would be given to the Department of Education. Not coincidentally, a Department of Education spokesperson issued a statement that made it sound (in nice, neutral political-speak, to be sure) like they couldn't wait to throw Paladino out on his ass. "Once we receive an application for removal, we will review it as quickly as possible," said a likely-chomping-at-the-bit Emily DeSantis.

Right before the vote, the awesomely-named district President Barbara Nevergold got her licks in as well.

"Words matter Mr. Paladino," she said. "As a sitting board member you have amassed a record and established a pattern of behavior that is equally egregious and violates your oath of office and professional ethics as a board of education member... I'm asking you to do the right thing and resign."
