Well, this isn't at all terrifying. Russia recently unveiled the first image of its newest thermonuclear intercontinental ballistic missile. And the lethal weapon RS-28, otherwise known as Satan 2, could wipe out out the whole state of Texas in one blow.

After years of teasing by the Russian government, the country's military finally released a picture of the rocket on the Makeyev Rocket Design Bureau's website. Along with the image, the website released a statement detailing the missile's function and design that was thought out during a 2012- 2013 planning period. The new weapon can reportedly deploy 40 megatons or roughly 2,000 times as much power as the bombs dropped on Hiroshima in 1945, according to Gizmodo

Dr. Paul Craig Roberts, former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Economic Policy, described the bombs that were dropped on Japan in 1945 as "pop guns" in comparison to the destruction that Russia's nuclear weapons could bring. "One Russian SS-18 wipes out three-fourths of New York state for thousands of years," he said in an official statement. "Five or six of these 'Satans' as they are known by the US military, and the East Coast of the United States disappears." With a name like Satan, it was only expected that terror would follow. But as if blowing Texas completely off the grid wasn't horrifying enough, the Satan 2 apparently is capable of dodging radar defenses well enough to strike the East and West coasts as well.

The original Satan missile was first developed in the 1970s by the Soviet Union. But the US and Russia both signed treaties in 2010, restricting the number of missiles the countries would keep in holding. Despite the treaty, Russia maintained its right to keep one strong nuclear weapon.

Russia's decision to deploy Satan 2 comes interestingly after the final presidential debate, where Hillary Clinton called Donald Trump Russian President Vladimir Putin's "puppet." Tensions have also been especially high between Russia and the US due to hacking allegations and the conflict in Syria. Russian authorities say Satan 2 will officially be put in service in late 2018, and the new and approved weapon will fully replace the old Satan by 2020.
