Trump at the final debate

Donald Trump has dominated headlines for months now, with most of the news not exactly being positive. Trump's shenanigans aren't just hurting him in the polls, they're hurting his businesses, too. Even his daughter's clothing line has reportedly suffered because of the Republican presidential nominee. Trump's hotels have already been walled off by taco trucks and tagged with "Black Lives Matter" graffiti, but now, Trump's real estate is getting an even bigger slap in the face: residents of Trump Place in New York City want The Donald's name off their building.

Trump Place along the Hudson River is described by the Trump Organization as the "crown jewel of the Upper West Side" in Manhattan." But Trump Place residents say that there's one thing about the building that really needs to improved: its name. They've started a "Dump the TRUMP name" petition, which has almost 300 signatures as of Monday morning, because they're "embarrassed to be living in buildings with the name 'Trump Place' blazoned in front."

Noting how Trump has treated and talked about women, minorities, immigrants, people with disabilities, and others, the petition says Trump is "antithetical to the values we and our families believe in." Since many of the staff are minorities or immigrants, "working in a building bearing [Trump's] name is insulting to them." In the end, the residents who are petitioning want their home to be a place "we should feel proud and happy to walk into every day."

Robert Stern, a Trump Place resident, told the New York Post: "He’s a jerk. I don’t respect him. I don’t want to be in a building that’s blaring his name. His name used to be gold—but now it's fool's gold."

Another resident, Mallory Gibson, told BuzzFeed News: "Uber drivers have commented on how it is the Trump building when dropping me off at night and then given me a bad rating while I was still in the car!"

Notably, Trump doesn't even own the Trump Place residential building anymore. According to BuzzFeed News, Equity Residential has owned and operated the building for 10 years and "there's no real authority issue to Trump." The petition addresses that, too: "Since Trump leases his name to buildings he does not own, part of our rent is being used to increase Trump's net worth." It continues: "Just as celebrities have their endorsements rescinded for bad behavior,  Equity Residential should rescind its leasing arrangement with Donald Trump, whose behavior has surely tarnished the Equity Residential brand." According to Mediaite, changing the building's name could cost around $1 million.

While it's not yet clear whether or not Trump Place will be getting a new name soon, Trump's latest business ventures are already being distanced from the candidate's name. Forbes reports that Trump's latest line of lifestyle hotels won't use Trump's name.
