Former Secretary of State Colin Powell appeared on CBS This Morning on Monday from live outside of the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C. He was there to speak about the new museum as well as race relations in America. But it didn't end up going according to plan.

In the middle of Powell's interview, a heckler in the crowd started screaming at him about his role in the Iraq War. Powell and the CBS This Morning hosts were clearly surprised by the heckler and stopped speaking for several moments as the man yelled. His words could be heard by those who were watching the interview at home. "Colin Powell, you know better, alright?" the heckler yelled. "As a black man in America, you dropped bombs on Iraq!"

Powell whipped his head around as the man was presumably removed from the audience by security. He then shrugged the man off before joking with the CBS This Morning hosts about what had happened. "Is he one of yours?" he asked.

"He is definitely not one of ours," host Gayle King said, "but he's coming up here to harass the show."

Once the heckler was removed from the premises, the hosts continued to interview Powell about the Smithsonian's new museum. They also interviewed a handful of other people about the museum this morning:

The National Museum of African American History and Culture opens on Sept. 24. You can watch Powell's full interview here.
