Clinton and Galifianakis do 'Between Two Ferns'

Following in Barack Obama’s footsteps, Hillary Clinton joined actor and comedian Zach Galifianakis on his bizarro interview series Between Two Ferns.

Though most episodes make punchlines of its subjects and keep Galifianakis as the hard-to-watch-yet-can’t-look-away star of the show, this one offers an offscreen punching bag: Donald Trump. The roast of Clinton’s rival begins even before her interview, with her nameplate reading, “Hillary Clinton had pneumonia,” poking fun of Trump-fueled conspiracy theories about her health.

“Not to take away from the historic significance of you perhaps becoming the first female president,” Galifianakis says. “But for a younger, younger generation, you will also become their first white president.”

Clinton doesn’t respond to this quip, but she does light up when the comedian says, “Let’s talk about Trump.” From there, the show might as well be renamed Between Two Burns. Galifianakis takes Trump to task for the following:

1. His Racism

“When you see how well it works for Donald Trump, do you ever think to yourself, ‘Oh maybe I should be more racist?’” Galifianakis asks to no response.

When the actor asks Clinton what her opponent might wear to the presidential debates, she says, “I assume he’ll wear that red power tie” before Galifianakis suggests, “Or, maybe like...a white power tie?”

“That’s even more appropriate,” the Democratic nominee says.

2. His weird supporters

“When he becomes president and Kid Rock becomes secretary of state, would you move to Canada, or one of the Arctics?”

“I would stay in the United States,” Clinton answers. “Try to prevent him from destroying the United States.”

“Any regrets over losing the Scott Baio vote?” Galifianakis asks.

“Not a one,” she responds.

3. Accusations of plagiarism against his wife

“When you went to Donald Trump’s wedding, did he write his own vows? And did Michelle Obama write Melania’s?”

4. His creepy comments about his daughter

“Chelsea, your daughter, and Ivanka Trump, are friends. Does Ivanka ever call Chelsea to talk about boys that might have crushes on her, like her dad?”

5. His miserable steak business

Finally, after playing an ad for Trump, Clinton asks Galifianakis: “Why would you play a commercial for my opponent in the middle of our interview?”

He answers that he was paid in steaks and adds, “It’s a good cut of meat, I think it’s part of the asshole.”

Galifianakis concludes with one last dig at Clinton: “Well this has been a lot of fun, Mrs. Clinton. We should stay in touch. What’s the best way to reach you? Email?”
