2 Police Officers Reportedly Shot in Arkansas

Per a report from CNN, one of the officers shot early Wednesday has reportedly died. The officer, Deputy Bill Cooper, was reportedly one of two officers wounded by gunman Billy Monroe Jones after responding to a 911 domestic violence call. CNN adds that Sheriff Bill Hollenbeck announced at 4 p.m. that the gunman "eventually surrendered."

At least two police officers have been shot in Sebastian County, Ark. on Wednesday morning, 5 News reports. The suspect in the shootings, Billy Jones of Greenwood, Ark. has reportedly barricaded himself in his home as officers are attempting to negotiate with him. News 5 further reports that Jones is not cooperating with authorities and is armed with a semi-automatic gun. 

The shooting occurred on the highway around 7:15 a.m. local time, News 5 reports. The shooting was reportedly called in as a family disturbance. 

An unidentified deputy and Hackett Chief of Police Darrell Spells were among the officers shot, according to News 5, and both were brought to Sparks Hospital in Fort Smith for treatment. Van Buren Detective Jonathan Wear said the deputy is in critical condition. Further information about Spells' condition has not yet been released.

The Sebastian County Sheriff's Office posted to Facebook around 10:00 a.m. local time asking for prayers for the officers who were involved in the shooting.
