Watch a N.J. Cop Save Man From Train Tracks With Seconds to Spare

The N.J. transit officer pulled a man from the train tracks seconds before a train came through.

Victor Ortiz, a transit police officer in New Jersey, pulled a heroic move that seemed straight out of Hollywood. Ortiz grabbed a man off the train tracks Friday, rescuing him moments before a train came barreling through. NBC News reports that Ortiz jumped down to the tracks to rescue the unidentified man as the approaching train's lights were nearing the station in Secaucus, N.J.

In the video, a man can be seen laying down on the tracks, and appeared to resist help when Ortiz jumped down and attempted to pull the man away from the tracks to safety.

"I was bracing for the worst, you know, but hoping for the best," Ortiz told NBC's Today Show. "In my mind, I was like this is not going to happen, not while I'm here. I'm going to do what I can to pull this guy through." NBC News reported that the man did not cooperate while Ortiz was trying to rescue him. The video shows Ortiz needed to pull the man multiple times before finally dragging him clear of the tracks, with only two seconds before the train came running past.

Referring to the struggle, Ortiz told NBC, "If that last pull had not worked, we already know what would have happened." But Ortiz reiterated that he felt he had no choice but to attempt to save the man's life, telling NBC, "Had I just stood there and done nothing? Again, I would not have been able to bear it."
