Those fears of going into surgery and losing a body part? They’re not so unfounded. A British surgeon is on the chopping block after reports say he accidentally removed his patient’s testicle and tried to cover it up.

It all went down in Buckinghamshire, England back in April 2014 when Dr. Marwan Farouk was set to operate on a man whose name has not been revealed. He's been referred to as "Patient A." Farouk was supposed to remove a right epididymal cyst when he somehow managed to take out the patient’s testicle instead, the Daily Mailreported.

After the botched operation, Dr. Farouk allegedly tried to cover his tracks by explaining the testicle was still there and functional, only smaller. "You have a small right testicle but it won’t give you any problems," he said, according to the Daily Express. It’s believed that he also wrote a note to the unidentified man’s general doctor saying there had been some tissue damage but failed to mention that small bit about removing one of his testicle.

He is set to meet with a panel made up of the Medical Practitioners Tribunal next month about the charges brought up against him. The hearing will last about three weeks while Patient A’s mental scarring will probably last a lifetime.
