Donald Trump earned high praise from an unlikely source when North Korean state media outlet DPRK Today praised the presumptive Republican nominee and dubbed him a "wise politician," according to NK News.
"There are many positive aspects to Trump’s 'inflammatory policies,'" the editorial stated, noting Trump’s comments in March where he said he will potentially withdraw U.S. military forces from Seoul if it does not pay more for the defense. "Yes do it, now...Who knew that the slogan ‘Yankee Go Home’ would come true like this? The day when the ‘Yankee Go Home’ slogan becomes real would be the day of Korean Unification." The article went on to praise Trump's willingness to remove the U.S. from the Korean conflict and noted his perspective aligns with that of North Korea.
The author of the article also referenced Trump’s proposal to hold direct talks with Kim Jong-un and called Trump a “far-sighted presidential candidate.” Earlier this month, Trump did reveal to Reuters that he would not have a problem speaking to Kim in order to stop North Korea's nuclear program.
The article also took a direct shot at Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton by calling her "dull" and urging the U.S. not to vote for her. “The president that U.S. citizens must vote for is not that dull Hillary —who claimed to adapt the Iranian model to resolve nuclear issues on the Korean Peninsula—but Trump, who spoke of holding direct conversation with North Korea.”
Interestingly enough, Kim's BFF Dennis Rodman actually threw his support behind Trump a year ago. "@realDonaldTrump has been a great friend for many years. We don't need another politician, we need a businessman like Mr. Trump! Trump 2016," he tweeted last July.
Just last week, Trump won the 1,237 delegates needed to clinch the Republican nomination for president. All eyes will be on Trump today during a news conference where he will reportedly address charitable donations he has made or steered to veterans groups. He has not directly commented on North Korea's praise for him, but did tweet early Tuesday morning, "So many great things happening—new poll numbers looking good!"
