Police Arrest 24 People in Connection to Federation Square Riot

And it seems there's still more arrests to come.

Police have reportedly arrested 24 people connected to the now-infamous Federation Square riot in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD last month.

Fairfax have reported the arrests, claiming a further 16 people in addition to the arrested 24 are under investigation, meaning a total of 40 arrests are possible.

Police Taskforce Ares have been investigating the incident, investigating a total 17 robberies and thefts from the night of March 12. The riot broke out just before 8pm during Melbourne’s annual Moomba event, which is a free festival on the banks of the city’s Yarra River.

The riot was allegedly sparked by members of Dandenong’s Apex gang, who clashed with rival gang YCW at Birrarung Marr, a small strip of land between Federation Square and the river.
