A Wollongong-area man has pleaded guilty to stabbing his friend after a dispute over a pair of sunglasses.

The Illawarra Mercury reports 23 year-old Adrian Waters was visiting his friend/soon-to-be victim early on January 9. Shortly after returning home, Waters received a visit from the same friend, who was looking for his sunglasses.

Keeping in mind this was during the early hours of the morning. Most people at this point would probably realise sunglasses are useless in the darkness and maybe make it a job for tomorrow. Waters’ friend however, believed the 23 year-old had “either deliberately or mistakenly” taken them, and showed up at his doorstep demanding answers.

Waters said he didn’t know where the shades were, but agreed to accompany his friend back to his unit to help look for them.

Back at the unit, the victim was standing in a stairwell when he was approached from behind, with court documents revealing “He felt the sensation of someone punching him, once to the shoulder and again to his back.”

Not knowing he had been stabbed, he turned to see Adrian Waters in front of him, who said “come down my way talking shit” before running off.

He later realised he was bleeding, was taken to hospital and received treatment for stab wounds to the shoulder.

Waters pleaded guilty to a charge of reckless wounding and will be sentenced in April.
