A Roman Catholic priest is facing some predictable backlash after footage of an alleged "two-day bender" was obtained by reporters, a bender that includes some equally alleged cocaine. Father Stephen Crossan is believed to be shown snorting a line through some regional currency, the Sun reports. However, all criticism of cocaine aside, the more troubling detail here revolves around Nazi memorabilia.
"It was just the one night and that was it," the priest reportedly said in his defense. "I do not have an issue with drugs." According to the Sun's unnamed sources, Crossan's home was "lovely" except for all the Nazi stuff. "It was all over the house," one source says. "At one point Stephen put on a cap and did the Nazi salute." In addition to the documented line of alleged cocaine, Crossan and his guests had reportedly been downing "beers and Jack Daniels" for hours.
Crossan, who says he has "left the church" but is being supported by the parish, argues that the bizarre Nazi items are simply part of a much larger collection. "I’m no Nazi," Crossan said, according to the Sun. "I collect historical stuff." Crossan also argues that the "two-day bender" in question, which took place on the grounds of St. Patrick’s Church in Northern Ireland, is the result of depression.
On a much lighter and presumably less cocaine-y note, a priest in the Philippines was suspended back in December for doing something even worse: hoverboarding. "[The priest] acknowledged that his action was not right and promised that it will not happen again," the diocese told the Sun Times in a statement following the predictable virality of the priest's hoverboarding clip. "[Mass] is not a personal celebration where one can capriciously introduce something to get the attention of the people."
